Once Seamed – It was time for a lining!
This lining was a little trickier than the square tote bag but by no means difficult. The hard part was the shape and making sure that everything lined up. To start, I cut out and pinned the shape, sewing around the edge to enclose it. I used a sewing machine but you could just as easily hand sew this!
Once I made the lining into a pouch, I sewed the zipper to the exterior of it (wrong side) so that when I hand sewed the lining and zipper together to the bum bag, the edge looked finished. I also added the strap at this part, and I added a clasp to help make it easier to take on and off, and so you could hang it off of a bag or something if needed.
Once everything is sewn together and all the ends are woven together, you’re all done! This is a great little bag and I’m thrilled with the result! I’m definitely going to make a bunch more of these but I think I’m going to make the granny squares one row bigger for a little extra room.
Ethical Consumption?
I discovered this bag at Target a few weeks ago. Obviously I loved it, the bright pink, the crochet pattern, but it $35. We all know how much effort goes into crocheting and how it can’t be replicated by a machine so I didn’t love that it was only being sold for what is definitely not a livable wage. But I wanted to make my own version inspired by the bag, but in a way that doesn’t contribute to fast fashion. So that’s what I did!
